Be extremely conscious of every action you take. Be very intentional, and very deliberate.

I don't know about anyone else, but I never really had much approach anxiety. I was always sort of good with women, never really scared or anxious about it. My problem with my personality has always been that I am sort of sluggish. "Chill" to a fault. People say I talk like a stoner. I just let life blow me like a leaf in the wind. Nothing ever affected me, but I didn't affect anything either.

My biggest realization has been that I need to WAKE UP. These are some of the things that required a CONSCIOUS and continuous effort.

  • Correct your posture. Stand upright. Neck back, shoulder back, chin up, eyes forward.

  • Smile and maintain eye contact in conversation.

  • Stay out of your head. It's often a temptingly comfortable place to be. Be very aware of what is around you, and accept it. Don't think too much.

  • When making a movement, make that movement deliberate. When walking, put focused power into each step. Feel the floor beneath your feet. When shaking someone's hand, feel their hand in yours, and deliver a deliberate and powerful handshake. Every action you take is important. In fact, it's sometimes useful to exaggerate your movements in an almost-theatrical way.

  • Don't let your voice trail off into a mumble or into a slurred, "chill stoner" type of voice. You know what I mean. This one was particularly bad for me. Enunciate every word. Say them loudly and clearly.

  • Listen carefully to others.

TL;DR Be vigilant, not inattentive. Be motivated, not apathetic.
