liquid courage
Used when explaining alcohol as a catalyst for bravery, particularly in a party or public setting. Best used in conjunction with moments involving violence or sexual acquisition.
The only way to not rely on this is to improve your inner game.

A drink or two can usually be a positive, at least for me. Alcohol releases endorphins which puts you in a relaxed state. Endorphins give you a positive outlook on yourself as well as others and your surroundings. You become more chill and less threatened by your environment.
However, after a couple drinks or shots, your frontal lobe (logical part of your brain) starts to go to hell. Game starts to suffer after 2-3 drinks for me (I'm 190lbs).
Here are some alternate endorphine "hits" I give my brain before going out socializing that assist in boosting my state.
1) Working out. Or some other physical activity beforehand.
2) Warmup sets. Socializing with other groups beforehand.
3) Music.
Bad endorphin hits, IMO:
-Sex/Masturbation. Yes, this releases a ton of endorphins, but it also drops my testosterone levels and kills my motivation to game.
-Drugs. Particularly X and opiates. (yipee, let's head straight into kino!) These can greatly help your game short term, but as you know, they come at a heavy heavy price long term.
Realize the OP was specifically addressing alcohol, but it's all kinda tied together in the big picture.

Particularly X
Why do you say this?
[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I think it's bullshit. I used to have alcoholic tendencies and believed alcohol gave me super socializing powers. I have recently realized that alcohol is really just a quick fix for social anxiety and you can blame your awkwardness on being drunk. Lately I have been just sipping on beers and taking it slow. My results have actually gotten a lot better. I found before when I would get drunk I could entertain women, be the life of the party, have people laughing but really in the end I was playing the role of a dancing monkey and I was just entertaining people. What kind of value does that show to people? Is a girl going to want to date you if you get plastered every weekend? What if you actually make a good impression on a girl and get a day 2 and then you can't even remember anything about her (happened to me)?
Alcohol is just a drug, it's not an instant +2 charisma. Stop using it as a crutch and never believe that it makes you better at anything

In fairness there is that point around the 2 pint (UK) mark where you are literally better at everything. After that everything goes down hill very quickly. I wouldn't discount the affects of alcohol completely.

Nailed it

You're too anxious is why, it is common. Thats what game is about, not being anxious. Many methods, same effects, find the one you want. Sorry I'm not more specific.

Someone posted this earlier, a Tyler video on alcohol. A lot of it sounds like bullshit, and there is a lot of tangential stuff, but it is worth it because he makes some good points.

I have great success in that state. However, I think it's for a few reasons. I have a very positive demeanor, when I'm drunk it looks like I'm having a really great time. Incidental kino, lean on them, or for some reason you think their hand is REALLY fun to play with all of a sudden. Completely outcome independent and delayed reactions, makes it seem like her game doesn't disrupt your frame in anyway. You're also going to be social proofed easier becuase everyone wants to be having as much fun as you.
More then anything, being drunk while practicing pickup(generally frowned up by the community), really helped me to train myself to be in any emotional state I choose, whenever I want(primarily emulating happy). I also can easily recount the evening, so I can remember the examples that worked the night before.

People here are really anti-booze. I don't like to sarge drunk, but I think it's for a different reason than most people on Seddit.
-There's a difference between using booze as liquid courage and using it as something that's fun. Being a little tipsy is fun, and if you're HAVING more fun, you'r going to BE more fun. Give me a couple bourbons and I'm having a blast, and so is everyone around me. I'm not drunk, I'm just enjoying myself a little more.
-Using it as something to make yourself approach when you otherwise wouldn't is lame, as if it's affecting you that much, you're probably too drunk to talk to girls competently.
I alternate drinks when I go out. Booze/soft drink/booze/soft drink.
I try to keep myself to one alcoholic beverage per hour, just based on what it does to me at my body weight and my personal experience.

Dude my game goes out the fucking window the second i drink.
[–]gabriot 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's mixed, I have a roomate who in my opinion should just never drink because he sucks complete ass while drunk.
My other roomate and I on the other hand become real smooth when drunk. Pretty much I'm on top of my game only when drunk.

To fix your weight problems I suggest trying: eat stop eat (24 hour fasts 2x a week). If you have back problems then you should try cycling in the sit down bikes at the gym. Shouldn't stress your back too much. You won't get all ripped but at least you'll be normal.
Other than that, I agree with the others here on your problem.

This is awful advice

Please indulge me with insight as to why this is awful advice.

It's just terrible lol

This is the best response you can give me? If you want to disagree that's fine, but at least back up your argument with a valid source. I realize the initial reaction to this is "no fucking way I'm doing that," because I reacted the same way when a friend first told me about it.
Later in life, another friend recommended it to me, and he let me borrow a book explaining all the science behind it. I read through the book, gave it a shot, and it changed my life forever.
Looking back I realize I should have trusted my first friend who mentioned it to me. Both of these guys are in better shape than anyone I know.

Encouraging an eating disorder to fix an eating disorder is like capitalism trying to fix poverty.
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Nice, except fasting != eating disorder when done once or twice a week. When you're not fasting, you can eat anything you like. Seriously, read "Eat Stop Eat" by Brad Pilon and stop trying so desperately to convince yourself that I'm wrong.
[–]robotscantdance 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Oh, there's a "book explaining all the science is there?" There are 50 books out there for every stupid diet plan you can think of, all claiming to be scientifically proven. These books are trying to sell themselves with ludicrous get-slim-quick schemes, as you're probably going to be alot less likely to purchase a book called "Start eating below maintenance, gradually at first until you begin to lose weight"
Very true. Nonetheless, it's more of an argument than "ur rong dats stupid." Read. Verify. Try. Learn. Simple as this, no need to be a dick about it.

Two 24 hour fasts a week to lose weight? Thats an unsustainable and dangerous way to lose weight, starvation is for idiots.
I'm not going to type how he should lose weight (if he feels like it btw,) theres plenty of subreddits here with info on that, much better info than this
