This thread was really nice for me to see. I'm going into my first year of college in August and I still have braces (and probably will for at least another year). I just gotta be confident about them and not worry what I think people will say.

First of all, you're most likely getting these braces as a step to improve your self image, which will improve your self-confidence. You get to fuckin smile! That's awesome. I am going to get braces as well in the near future, hopefully invisalign, but not gonna worry. In regards to what others think, who gives a flying fuck? Don't worry about it. If you are self-conscoius about it, why? There's no need. You have braces now, and you need to wear it like a piece of armor.

You own the braces, don't let the braces own you.

Make jokes about them. Compare yourself to Jaws from James Bond. Say it's there to restrain you from biting too hard. See it as an opportunity, not an obstacle.

well it's actually not unusual to have braces at that age. as a matter of fact 1 guy in my closer friend-circle is also 20 with braces and he has no problems with women whatsoever :)

give yourself a clever nickname and be proud to stand out form the masses of AFCs!

Sorry if someone else said this already.. but if you ever have any sort of insecurity about yourself, feature it!

If you don't care that you have braces, nobody else will care.
