You're actually doing it correctly.

While you're doing the self development you will feel much better and more confident and it passively attracts people to you.

Keep in mind though that while it attracts people to you, if you didn't work on your game you cant take advantage.

I did a little self development, ran around cold approaching and just learned game until I reached a mental block and then started focusing more on self development.

While I did that I had plenty of opportunities present themselves. In many ways the fact I wasnt thristy anymore made me more attractive as well as my goal driven attitude.

Added to that I already had a solid game, anytime a opportunity presented itself I got to pick and choose which girl I felt like giving time to.

There's one thing that I found exceptionally hard to overcome when I was doing major lifestyle improvements and that's accepting your flaws and believing you are good enough. When you're trying to upgrade your lifestyle, your nose is all up in your flaws and you're hyper-aware of them.

But here's the secret - your flaws don't matter. Women don't actually want a perfect man!

Women will act like they want the complete package in a man. Like they want him to be smart, handsome, charismatic, dominant, super-social, and going places in life. And they won't accept anything less. But that's actually mostly self-inflicted ego games on her part. She wants a guy who will impress her social circle, but that only really matters when she wants a serious relationship with you and that won't happen until you guys have been hooking up for a little while, at a minimum. Her standards for hooking up with a guy are actually quite a bit lower, but she'll never tell you that.

The reality is for most women that if they met a guy who actually was superlative, they'd get all trapped in their head and sabotage themselves, just like we do when we think we're interacting with a woman that's out of our league.

The truth is that when a woman is into you, she'll be more than willing to overlook your flaws. There are women out there who will chase married men, criminals, deadbeats, and other types of men with not only flaws but glaring red flags. Most of the time, that's because they're playing out their own neuroses or want a man they can feel superior to, but the point is this...

If she's attracted to you (because of your masculinity, because that's what really attracts women)....

She won't care about your beer belly (so long as you're not obese), your height, or any other physical flaws (she'll actually care more that you groom yourself properly and smell okay).
She won't care that you don't have tons of cash (so long as you're not broke or sponging off her).
She won't care if you're not living the dream (so long as you're not aimless and unemployed).
She won't care if your apartment sucks, or even if you're living with your parents. If she's into you enough, she'll hook up with you in her car, or even in a public bathroom!

As Mark Manson says, there are three main things that influence a man's outcome with women. His lifestyle will influence the quality of women in his life. His courage and masculinity, as demonstrated through the willingness to approach and polarize, will determine the quantity of women. And his level of game, that just affects his odds with any individual woman.

It's like sales. Look for buying signals & tests. Women rarely need to be convinced if they feel good around you.

Don't pressure yourself when it comes to pick up. It can backfire easily.

But is it possible to still meet and pickup women during this phase?

Yes, it's just practice, go for it. This way, you will be better prepared and more confident when you hit the next milestone and want to spend more time meeting and picking up.

You had me at the things you were working on in your life. Sounds like it’s the perfect time to start speaking to people, if you want a partner to build together with! :) But if you need more time to build confidence then stick to that!

Go practice, set a certain time every week to approach and just work on it. 3 approaches a week and start to increase it once you hit the numbers easily.

I would definitely recommend doing it in THIS phase. One of the biggest 'mistakes' I did was to work on my self-development, such as, finishing my education, getting in shape, and neglecting my game.

My thought was that I would work on it AFTER I had checked off a bunch of boxes, this is a big mistake. The best thing I have done for my personal growth was to step into uncomfortable situations and own all my insecurities. So, if you're out of shape right now, own it - go on dates and let them see you're out of shape. *Who cares! We need to develop some thick skin.

Women are here to make us better men, so take their criticism and use it as fuel to propel your personal growth. You will be pleasantly surprised on the other side.
