I know this has been discussed to death but I remember being out with some female friends. I would chat up some targets and my friends would tell me to buy her a drink to show her that I'm interested. I'm guessing girls that have lower self esteem that don't get hit on all the time might appreciate such a gesture. When I explained my rule about not buying drinks for girls, my friend scoffed and said, fine you're never going to get a girl with that rule.
