yeah absolutely. I follow r/psychology and there was a study posted there somewhat recently on humor. Apparently, males have a higher tendency to produce humor than females b/c it offers a sexual advantage. I forget what the nitty gritty is and how it tied to the ancestral environment but it suggests that, in general, women see a man's ability to produce humor as sexually attractive.

I'd say it's only "looked down" upon if that is all you've been doing for like 10 years and it's not going anywhere. But that's w/ any career in entertainment, it's not b/c of the craft itself but it's only looked down upon where it's not going anywhere for you. For instance, playing guitar is classically seen as "attractive" to women by society but if you're a 30 year old guy who has done nothing but play guitar at shitty gigs for 10 years, then that may be seen as unattractive to some women. It's not playing guitar itself that's unattractive, it's the fact that it's not going anywhere for you and yet the hypothetical guy does not seem to have the motivation to change his situation
