Conversations to have at parties?

I faced this problem a lot this year at college, especially in the first week. The first thing I would usually say (to show I was different to other guys) after being introduced to people was "Hi nice to meet you, I won't bore us both by asking about where you're from or what you're studying". This way they instantly know you are different from everyone they have met at college/talked to/met at the party.

After that they usually laugh and seem relieved and interested since they know you aren't boring, then just go into game mode. Good luck.

Best thing you can do is just talk. Asking something like what is your major is great conversation point because most of the time they're passionate about what they do. Getting them to talk is the key and if you don't like the conversation just leave and find someone else. Once you find a girl you like tell some jokes and get her to laugh, just keep the conversation going

It's great to hear that you want to meet all kinds of people. Your showing that you want to grow as a person. I know, nobody wants to have boring conversations with anybody.

I'm sure your familiar with the courtship process. There are three main parts to it. Attraction phase, rapport phase and seduction phase.

You can rely on this model with both men and women. You might just want to skip the seduction phase with the guys. Unless it's your thing as well. I also recommend skipping the seduction phase with girls you have no sexual/romantic interest.

Anyways. It's important to start in the attraction phase in almost every interaction with both men and women.

Why would you want to build rapport with me if you have no kind of interest in me. I'm sure that if I said or did something that caught your interest you would be more interested in building rapport with me.

A common mistake people make in social interactions is that people start an interaction in the rapport phase. You got to get people attracted to you at some level first before they can open up to you. (this is why conversation can get boring quick)

What I recommend you do is start your interactions by making statements, observations, funny guesses, self amuse, practice role playing and framing, be in the moment. Most important part is to make sure your having fun first.

These are behaviors that will raise your attraction level.

After people are attracted to you, building rapport with people will be much easier. It's acceptable asking about their major, where they are from, and other rapport topics after the some attraction has been build

One last thing: Make sure you build rapport (especially deep rapport) with people only when your in a one on one situation with them. It's too much pressure for the average person to truly open themselves up when other people are listening to your conversation.
