The thing is that it all depends on the context. If you want to get a girl you need to eventually show your interest because then the girl will never know you even want her and if she doesn’t know you want her then nothing will happen.
But under certain contexts or situations hiding your interest can spark curiosity, but even then that’s only initially after a while you have to switch back to showing interest when the time is right and you can only know when the time is right with experience.

The common denominator is how interested the girl is into you. You show interest if your unsure/know that she is interested in you potentially. You pull back when you know she was even slightly interested but then she started getting cold with you. If a girl isn’t interested in you enough however, pulling back won’t get her interested, she’ll just be relieved that there’s one less guy to worry about.

I think it just depends on the guy really. Some guys show way too much interest, whilst others don’t show enough. If you approach a Woman whilst looking miserable and robotic showing disinterest, she’s obviously going to think it’s weird and creepy.
For me, showing interest works more than showing disinterest does.

In all occurrences besides in private social circle events where there are more girls than guys you need to approach and talk to them you can be direct and show interest and be indirect and strike up a friendship first
