So what if you look like a fool. You take yourself way too seriously, no one cares if you look like a fool, other people have bigger priorities and problems than that. No one cares about your reputation or your image, they only care about theirs. Years from now no one will even think about the guy who once did a foolish thing.
You need to stop focusing on how you feel or how you will fee, and instead focus on how she is feeling and how you make her feel.
You give way too much importance to the outcome of this, it really is not that big of a deal no matter if she rejects it or accepts it.
You need to accept that not everyone you like will be interested and that’s fine. You have to get rejected a lot in life in order to grow, trying to escape rejection leads to a mediocre life. Nothing interesting or good happens when you run away from potential rejection. And let’s face it, it only hurts because you are choosing to care. There are many guys who don’t choose to care and as such they don’t let it affect them. It’s a choice.
You choose to take yourself too seriously, you are trying to protect your ego which is your enemy, when you should be happy that your ego is destroyed because it sets you free. A weak ego leads to freedom and happiness because you don’t care about appearances anymore, or about external approval, you are just you and whoever doesn’t like it can eat shit

No easy way out, get used to rejection
I actually find approach anxiety harder than fear of rejection
Once I get past the initial opener I can ask out no problem
Been rejected so many times it doesn’t hurt, at all

There's no need to say "go out with me" and be so explicit about it being a date. You can say to hang out or grab a bite or get coffee.
Even girls who might like you might feel pressured and refuse.
