I agree that you going for the kiss is a good strategy.
But, the guy she went off with obviously seemed like more of "the life of the party". Or at least that is the way you have described him.
I hate to admit this, but your description gives me the impression that you were not on top yesterday. That is completely fine! At least you were out there gaining experience.
I would keep her number. She just sounds like she has standards most would not be used to. Just don't let her waste your time, and keep filling your pipeline with new leads, and all will be well.

Why even go for the kiss at all?
You should've just focused on having fun. You went for a kiss FIRST and then the rest of the night she had to put a guard up. The more you pushed the matter, the further she had to reinforce her walls. I would have just danced and talked and been indifferent to the outcome of the evening, and then dropped her your number and expressed interest in her.
To further pursue her at this point would be like trying to infiltrate a castle with a moat, a perimeter fence, and infrared snipers. Move on to the next one! If you show this one you can have a good time with someone else, she may give you a second look!

Patronize her, tell her you only have eyes for her or don’t say anything at all just grab her hand and twirl her onto the dancefloor. Ladies deal in feelings; whether it’s jealousy watching you talk to other women even though they just met you 20min prior or having a (seemingly) confident guy drag her out onto the dancefloor while she’s trying to stay upset with him. Tease her for being jealous if she presses, and remind her “I came back to you babydoll” or “she can’t compete with you” or something along those lines. Or maybe be original, while your with the second girl, send the first girl a class of ice cold water with lime, and make sure they tell her its from you. Now the second girl will wonder where you bought the balls to send other girls drinks and when the first girl takes her sip and looks confused you come over and let her know you were just trying to keep her hydrated because she looked “thirsty”. Keep it light, keep her thinking.
All this sounds so needy to be completely honest.

Thats because you’re thinking of it seriously. She knows she’s not the only woman for you, and she knows you know that too. She also knows you’re just trying to shut her up and make her smile, and that small effort to make her smile is enough. The self deprecating idea that she could be “the only woman for you” shows you put in effort, but is underlined by the subtext of your previous actions which say “its not that serious.”
