Direct vs indirect approach

You should be clear in your intent, which does not mean you need to open direct. "Hey, what's your name?" is not direct. As for "don't go up and complement a girl because she will shut you down because attractive girls get hit on/complimented every day. "...bullshit, the problem with learning from people online who may not be successful at game and may have massive self-limiting beliefs.

I'm no expert, but as far as my understanding of theory its something like this. For a indirect approach the fact that you are starting a conversation with a stranger showcases your confidence. I feel like the indirect approach allows them to gain comfort with you without having to make a snap decision if they are interested or not. So maybe after you have made the indirect approach you need to utilize opportunities in the conversation to make your intentions clear. With a direct approach (depending on the girl) they might accept it or they might kind of push you away. From what i've seen on this sub, if you persist you can still overcome and swing the opinions of the girls that aren't immediately receptive to the direct approach. Personally I prefer the indirect approach, as it feels a lot more natural and I don't feel like a creeper, but if you master both im sure you will have more success. I think when deciding which approach to go for try to consider the setting, how receptive or occupied the girl looks, and what works best for you.

Being always clear goes against the “push and pull” concept, where you show your interest but keeps it somewhat subtle. Creating a tension will make it a lot more fun for both you and her. You could do an indirect approach, then go direct, ask her name, things like that. That’s why it’s called “gaming”, it’s meant to be fun, to be playful. Being too direct kills the fun in it.

Do not go indirect.

When you suddenly approach someone, she knows exactly why you're approaching. You're not fooling anyone and you come off as slimy and tactical.

Let's talk about the classic indirect opener via Mystery Method...

"Hey, I have to get back to my friends so I only have a minute. But I need a female opinion. Who lies more? Men or women?"

In this opener, you told three lies.

You lied about getting back to your friends.
You lied about having only a minute.
You lied about needing a female opinion.

So right off the bat, you're a liar. She knows it. And worse...you know it...and that makes you feel slimy and manipulative. You're not a man of integrity. You hide your intent. Not the confident guy you want to convey.

I'm not saying you should tell her "hey, you look beautiful". But don't make up phony shit either. Because the more you have to put on an act, the worse your self-esteem. Your self-esteem suffers because needing an act is a tact admission that you're not good enough.
