On Seddit I think way to many people are identifying things as shit tests when they're really not. If you're dating and watching a show that's a perfectly ordinary thing to say. How on earth is this a test?

Shit tests are just a mechanism for people to see if someone is worthy of their time. Not everything is a fucking shit test. She just didn't want to miss a part of the show. End of story. You say you've been dating for about a month. If she didn't like you she wouldn't have been dating you for over a month.

I mostly lurk on this sub, but yeah, I gotta jump in on this.

Always think critically about the situation at hand before you assume that "this girl is doing something that doesn't follow my plan, this must be a shit test". If anything, this sounds to me like she wants to share the experience with you, not as something she wants you to abstain from.

Having said that, shit tests, in my experience, do go away for the most part. They will resurface during times of stress or rocky periods in the relationship though, as a way of trying to assert dominance.

edit: Seriously, this is crazy. If you were going out with this girl for a long time, and you started watching a show together, do you think you're girlfriend is seeing how alpha your response is going to be when she says Don't watch any without me! Of course not. She's trying to connect with you, an inside joke. This is how people connect.

You're over thinking it. By the time you sleep with a girl, the shit tests are pretty much over. You've already proved your worth. She's sticking around because she enjoys your company and wants to share an activity with you. Don't be a sperg and have some "hot shot" reply to everything she says.

Doesn't matter if this was a shit-test or not. The real question is whether the way you replied/handled it was best...

First, let me address the issue of a shit-test. A shit-test is also often referred to as a "congruence test", meaning she's testing (1) whether you are really the person you present yourself as and (2) whether or not you are "man" enough for her continued attention, interest, etc. Always keep in mind that most of the time women don't realize they are shit-testing you but they always know if you fail.

Was she consciously shit testing you? No. But was this in fact a shit-test? Not, strangely enough, if you answered correctly. If you answered wrong it turns into a shit-test in retrospect. So, did you answer "wrong"? Well, yeah, in a way. I'll explain below.

First, I would encourage you to question whether the advice you've gotten thus far is very good. While they may be right that "not everything is a shit-test", their advice is basically saying, "your answer was honest and thus fine."

The problem is two fold. First, the way you answer is a bit supplicating. Sort of approval seeking, "No, I'll do what you say in order to make you happy!!" That's never very good. Second, you simply gave into her frame. Now, not everything has to be a battle but remember that women rarely bang "equals" and prefer men they can look up to. Men they look up to don't seek women's approval and have strong frame.

So your answer failed both of these metrics.

A simple answer would have been a bit of a cocky but amused, "Oh, I'm so totally watching it without you. And I'm going to reveal all the spoilers to." Maybe even the first sentence would enough.

This is the kind of reply that makes a girl giggle a little, or even do the classic arm punch.

What it says is, "silly girl, don't bother me with your quaint and cute entreaties. See you next week!"

It's not belittling but playful while keeping your frame and not kissing her ass.

Don't kiss women's ass. It isn't fruitful and doesn't do anything to endear yourself to them.

You don't have to a dick... just playful, charming, master of your own world, to which you invite her, that's all.

You answer suggested she was the master and you were happy to join her frame. Don't do that.

I naturally would have responded something like"[insert title] marathon tonight" or "I've already seen the next 3 seasons" without identifying it as a shit test. That's just because I like to keep things fun. Since the statement and situation were pretty much understood by both of you, I don't think she was expecting a serious response
