This happened to me the other night: I was talking to a friend of a friend I've never met before, this cute girl.
After some flirting, we were kicking it off well...and I was able to isolate her. We talked a bit, and then she got a bit awkwardafter we held eye contact and I went in for the kiss which she kissed me on the cheek. She started apologizing, I could tell she was nervous, awkward and anxious.
Now this was a pretty awkward situation, but for some reason, I didn't care. I smiled, told her "listen, I'd totally make out with you right now" (which is something I never do, I just go for it but verbalizing seemed to seem right in this case) to which she nervously said "yeah I would make out too but I'm here with my best friend and I can't ditch her tonight." I told her no big deal, she didn't have to ditch her friend, and we'll just make out for a bit.
Usually the awkwardness would have made me bounce, but by forcing through it and keeping my frame, I was able to turn it around with positive results. This could be applied to cold approaches as well (something I've been having issues with). I bounce too early at the signs of awkwardness, when if I stay I could probably just push through it.
Unfortunately the girl had to go back to her friend (who was driving her home), sometimes logistics just aren't in the cards.
