So for the longest time I've had approach anxiety and let it get the better of me to the point of really hating myself.

But today, that changed. Not all of my own intentional doing granted, but I leaped the first, giant, hurdle. I 'closed' with a number (sort of).

The story: So I'm holiday in Málaga, Spain with a friend of mine and we decided we were going to hit the beach for a little bit and get a bit of a tan (from England, no sun, rather pale skin).

Much to our disappointment, Málaga is actually not very tourist-based and so talking to anyone besides each other is nearly impossible (besides his bad, and my non-existent, Spanish). However, as we lay there, two British girls lay next to us. At first, neither of us thought nothing of it but after we'd both gone swimming to cool down and decided we were going to leave (at this point my friend and I and the two girls had only engaged in very, very minor talk) one of them spoke to me (important).

Nothing special, just simple talk wanting to know how long we'd been here for, if we knew any English-speaking bars around the area, what both parties were doing in Málaga (they were looking for work - for the summer I believe).

Anyway, after that was over, my friend (who was showering further up the beach) walked over to me as I had (admittedly, very awkwardly) moved over to finish packing up my stuff.

It was at this moment, when he asked if we were all set to go, that it clicked in my head that I should ask for their number. So I counted to three (learned from Seddit) and went for it.

After much hesitation, I walked back over to them and said something along the lines of: "I'll tell you what, could I have your number. If either of us find a bar we like, we text the other." She agreed but in my awkward pack-up I'd put my phone in my wet pocket so when I pulled it out, it didn't respond to touch...) so in the end I said it'd be easier I have mine to them.

Close. I did it. Very small milestone but for me it's the biggest accomplishment regarding 'pick-up' (hate the term immensely).

I don't know what finally clicked in my head to make me do it but should it come to me, I'll edit this post with it.

PS - I have luck to thank for making me feel like I wouldn't get rejected (they spoke to me first).

Any comments on this would be great!

EDIT: Completely forgot to mention the progress with the interaction. Four hours later, no progress and honestly not expecting any but I'm not upset by it. Instead of thinking about the flake, I'm thinking more about the fact I broke this cycle I was in.

That and it's only 18:30 over here.

EDIT 2: One text me back, their phone died so they text me with the second girl's phone. So I have two numbers out this!

Following the text back, my buddy and I were sitting in one of the pubs I mentioned to the girls, admittedly with a little expectation to see them and low and behold they walked past and saw us in there and we all had a couple of drinks. Nothing happened at the end of the night but that didn't bother my friend or I.

Note: I get the feeling they were somewhat interested in me at least (my friend had nothing to do with the interaction on the beach), because after they are their dinner they walked past their accommodation to see if we were in the pub.
