I have no fucking clue if this is even the right place to be making this post but I don't know where else to write it so here I go.
To start, I have never had a girlfriend let alone been on a date or done anything remotely sexual with anyone. I'm also pretty introverted and have confidence issues but I don't have a problem meeting new people, given the right setting. Ultimately my circle of friends always winds up pretty small and I, for the most part, am fine with that.
Up until last year I was never worried about my lack of dating experience at all. I simply just didn't care. But once that summer rolled around something switched in my head and all of a sudden I found myself wanting/needing more from my social life. In the past couple of months though it has gotten to the point of, dare I say, depression, because the more I think about my situation the more I am worried about how much my lack of experience will fuck me (in a purely figurative sense, of course) later on in my life. For example, I don't want to become the kind of late-bloomer who bangs a lot of women but is empty inside. Case in point this guy. To me this is a fate worse than virgin.
In terms of what kind of relationship I want, I really can't tell at this point as I have no experience to reflect on. Hooking up seems fun but who knows. I don't even know whether I'm the kind of person who would be into that scene or if what I really need is just someone to be in a nice relationship with. Trying both would be super but the order in which they happen does not matter.
Finally, here's the real meat of my issue. I am about to transfer from my local community college to a university (Stony Brook) notorious for its lackluster social scene and a student body very focused on studying. I did not really have the social aspects of the school in mind when making the decision as I was more focused on academics. Now I'm worried about how someone like me with no experience who has never even tried to put himself out there can make something of my situation
So my question is for all the people on this sub who, like me, did not go to a "party school". What advice can you give for finding someone? How did you manage to find success in an environment not as conducive to hookups/dating as other colleges?
Beyond the typical 'join clubs', or 'talk to people in class', all things I plan on doing, I really am at a loss for what I should do. Especially since I'm going in as a transfer rather than a freshmen. It seems like that would make my prospects, not just for dating but for making friends in general, that much lower as most people have been settled in already.
