So one of my biggest hangups is approach anxiety not due to rejection, but simply due to having no idea what to say, and the awkwardness that follows. However in the spirit of 100sets I decided I need to just fucking push through it.
Just Talk, Being Awkward Isn't That Bad
I remember something Tyler said from RSD, which was he'll approach without thinking and as he's going up, he'll be like "well, I have nothing to say, guess this will be awkward".
I was in line today at a clothing store, and this pretty attractive girl was standing in front of me. I wanted to say something but then AA started to hit, my heart started racing and she was about to leave.
Not having a damn thing to say, I awkwardly open her without thinking asking if she watches a certain TV show (I was trying to by a costume for it), she responds not really but seen a few episodes. I try to push but the conversation quickly dies out after as she leaves.
Could I have opened better than coming out of left field? Obviously, but in a moment of AA panic I figure opening with ANYTHING is better than nothing. Was it awkward? A little bit, but not too bad... and finally, guess what... I lost absolutely nothing by being slightly awkward. Nothing. Still breathing but without the regret of not opening.
Go out there and open, even if it means being awkward people.
EDIT: I fully believe in situational openers, and am usually pretty good with them, but once in a while if AA hits I don't think clearly or can't come up with anything to say. My point is that it shouldn't be a reason not to open
