Quick background- I'm 20 and it's been 2 years since I broke up with my last girlfriend. Since then I've hooked up with one girl. I found this sub a little bit ago and have been lurking since. This summer I decided to stop being a pussy and to start trying to change my life. A few days ago I visited a friend and left my town and thought that this would be a good opportunity to push my comfort zone (really bad AA) since I would never have to see these people again. After a few missed opportunities and generally feeling shitty, I decided to go for it:

Last day in town, we went to a diner for breakfast. We get an attractive waitress- HB7. Usually I would spend the entire meal focused 100% on my friend and avoid eye contact. This morning something different happened. my friend and I talked over breakfast and started joking around about how we should ask for her number in a ridiculous way and w/e. This time I actually decide to go through with it.

She gives us a receipt and I tell my friend I'm going to do it. he laughs and says he's going to the bathroom because it would be to awk for him to be a part of. part of me didn't want to go through with it at this point because he left and it was just me. I said fuck it. she comes back and I say, "hey I have a question about this receipt," pointing at the restaurant's number at the top "is this the best number to reach you at?" she says "like the restaurant?" to which i replied, "no, you personally" and i smirked at her. it's worth noting that I'm usually really nervous while talking to girls, but this time i was fucking cheesing my ass off, honestly trying not to laugh because this was such a big rush/really fun and exciting. she says, "haha I have a boyfriend" and i replied "oh, how long have you had that problem?" she laughs and tells me to have a nice day.

I think the most important part of this was for the first time I didn't give a shit about whether it worked or not- I just wanted to make a memory and have something to laugh about with my friend when we go back to college.

Lessons Learned:

  1. stop being a pussy
  2. be outcome independent and have fun
  3. success doesn't always mean closing
