On a weeknight last week, I decided to suck it up and go to a bar alone. I was surprised to find the bar pretty empty and wasn't sure if that helped me feel any less weird about being there by myself. I grabbed my beer, chatted with the bartender a little then took a look around the bar.

Fortunately, I saw a cute guy sitting at a table by himself writing in a notebook. Since all the seats were taken at the bar, I didn't want to take a whole table just for me, so I asked the guy if I could share the table with him.

It was a little awkward at first because he just kept writing. I wasn't sure if I should just sit there (we were facing each other) and just sip my beer while looking around the room. Or if I should take out my own notebook and write. Or if I should take out a book and read. In the end, I just ended up messing around on my phone a little bit, then asked him if he wanted to do a shot (there was a special deal for shots, so it was cheap). He accepted.

I know that buying a guy a drink may come off desperate, the whole thing may have come off desperate, but the shot was cheap and it was a good segue into conversation

After the shot, we started talking and kept up a conversation for about almost two hours. Great convo, we have plenty of stuff in common and he really was attractive. At one point he bought another round.

Around 10:45p, he said that he was getting tired and should get home. We shook hands and said "nice to meet you", then he handed me a slip of paper with his name, email and phone number on it, and left me sitting at the table.

Now, we did discuss earlier that he lived near the bar and I was almost expecting him to ask if I wanted to have another beer at his place (I would have). So, I was a bit surprised by his abruptness.

I left soon after and texted him so he would have my number. He responded, "Had a lovely evening, hope we can hang out again."

Summary: First time going to a bar alone, met an attractive guy, had a solid conversation and got his number!
