I think I figured out coffee shop game that works for me. Hopefully it'll work for you.
I'm working and grabbing coffee at a local cafe in Southern California. There are sparse tables of four and a long table attached to the wall where people sit/stand side by side. KNOWING WHERE TO SIT IS KEY! Let me explain.
My previous [FR], I saw a girl sitting at a table by herself. I got up from my table and approached. From approach to my exit, it went well. However, there was something about it that seemed less organic. It was quite obvious I was putting in effort to talk to her. It caught her off guard IMO.
Fast forward to yesterday, I'm sitting at the long table where a cute Asian chick in yoga pants sits next to me. We're sitting side by side and she sets up camp with papers and a laptop next to me. I would normally:
Hi, I'm longelm. What's your name?
My name is blah...
Hi blah, I just thought you were cute and wanted to say hi.
Oh, thanks!
Then we'd make small talk and I'd begin to find it harder to carry conversation. Mostly, based on the pressure to talk to her I place on myself. I can't help the way I feel, still new to this.
Since we sat side by side, I noticed she was studying antibodies on her laptop and asked what she was studying. A couple laughs from her and staying more interested in her as opposed to allowing the conversation to revolve around me made for light, playful conversation.
I asked for her number, which I've been working the balls to do. It wasn't my smoothest line, but I asked "hey, I gotta go.. but we should continue this conversation. Let me get your number and I'll treat you to coffee next week."
Closed it. I texted, "it was nice to meet you, see you saturday" after I left. She said she's looking forward to it.
TLDR: Position yourself where it's easiest to talk to girls. It'll make things more comfortable for you. Couches, long tables, whatever works. In my case, a table that allows me to sit next to someone I don't know and show off my persona.
Also, meditation has been helpful in keeping me in the present moment. There are times my unconscious mind will think of 50 things at once. Meditation allows me to focus on what's happening right now and helps me stay there. I think that played a big role in how calm and collected I was. Paired with being nonreactive, I think this goes a long way to upping your inner game. Just my two cents.
