So I was on a trip to Israel recently (still here actually), and on the flight there I saw a girl that I literally fell in love with. The way she interacted with people, the way she carried herself, and way she dressed was the most attractive thing is the world for me. Plus I thought she was beautiful. Although I've been lurking here for a little while, the AA in me hit me HARD. Literally for ten hours, I couldn't keep my eyes off this girl, and I could NOT make a move. It took me back to my high school days which is the only other time where I fell real hard for some girl. So she leaves, and I'm under the assumption that we'll never see each other again.

Over the next ten days, I'm always sort of looking for her on the off chance that some miracle will happen and bring us back together. I figure if it's truly meant to be, our paths will cross again. Anyway, after giving up all hope, the second to last day I'm getting breakfast at my hotel, when I see her getting breakfast right next to me!! She's in the same hotel. I thought this is it. This is a sign. Alas, my AA got ahold of me once again, and I walked away.

Getting excited I was telling everyone about it, and I told myself I can NOT end this trip without saying hi. So over the next two days, I hang around the lobby occasionally scouting her out. It was actually kind of creepy. I saw her in the lobby frequently, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. I'm sorry you guys, I failed you.

Then one day, actually the last night of the trip, I sit in a chair in the lobby playing a ukulele, when she and this dude sit a few couches in front of me. I think "Oh great, well that's over." But then something brilliant happened. The guy noticed me and asked if I can play Somewhere Over The Rainbow. I don't know the words but I know the basic chords so I go up to sit with them, and play them the tune.

I introduce myself to girl and the guy, and we chat for like 20-30 minutes. It felt amazing, finally, to speak to her. She was interesting, and I kept asking questions. I avoided kino to avoid the awkwardness with the guy, but I learned they weren't together; they just met on the trip. Unfortunately, I learned she lives in Florida, but her dad lives in NY. Ironically, I live in NY and my dad lives in Florida. I got her name, and then I had to go. Nice.

A week later I added her on Facebook. She messages me "Hey what's up?" Okay, this might seem stupid and trivial and rudimentary, but I panicked. If I fuck this up, that's it. I read up on text and facebook game, and gathered that:

  • I shouldn't seem too available. Change your chat settings to offline.

  • Respond to messages a little bit longer than it took for them to send it to you. Example: If it takes her 30 minutes to message you, take 40 minutes to respond.

  • Be direct and use DHV's.

  • The goal is to get her number, and that's IT.

So after applying these techniques, this is how the conversation went down:

Her: Hey what's up?

Me: I'm hanging out in [city]! I love this place :) It was nice meeting you, how was your flight?

Her: Oh its nice there (: it was nice meeting you too, the flight was long but I slept most of the way. When are you coming back to the states?

Me: Nice, I couldn't get an ounce of sleep last time. I'm coming back June 7th! Are you going to be in NY then?

Her: yeah i had trouble sleeping flying there, so on the way back i took benadryl and slept for 6 hours haha. and no, i'm already back in Florida :( but i'll be back on Long Island around Christmas time

Me: Great! Give me your number and we'll keep in touch then. If I end up paying my dad a visit this summer, I'll keep you posted :p

Her: My number is [number] and that sounds good (:

Short, simple, and to the point. I'm really pumped now. We'll see where this goes. I know this sounds like a case of oneitis, and it kind of is, but this whole exchange didn't distract me from gaming all the girls in my group (one of which I F-closed). I've been applying the things I've learned from this subreddit to great success. I've been feeling a lot more confident around women because of you guys, so thank you!
