Its cool to have expectations. It's what makes us who we are. It's that inner voice using everything we've learned, tasted, experienced and lived through to give us an inner dialogue for how something may turn out. A night out on the town, a relationship with a women, our careers and passions. How could we form an opinion for anything if we didn't have any expectations? Expectations can and will bite you in the ass though. Understand that life moves according to its own tempo and we can do our best to learn that tempo as much as possible to stay on beat; however, it doesn't mean that when we miss a beat we should trip. It just means that we should appreciate life for what it is. Music.
Lately i've felt myself trying to figure out why certain things happen the way they do and the only thing I could muster was that life is very two fold. Life is very happenstance, but only so because highs wouldn't be high if there weren't lows. So stop getting discouraged things don't always go according to plan. There's a reason why people say live in the moment. When we're not being dictated by that voice in our head, expectations can't damper the way you're feeling. We can act different when we think things aren't going to plan. Stop thinking that way. Plans should be made to have structure, but enjoy what adventures life brings you. So what if your night out on the town didn't end in anything. "What did go right?" "What could have went right next time?" But none of this inner dialogue needs to go on while you're out. It's going to happen naturally because we're people of thoughts, but your mindset throughout should be to enjoy the gift of life that's been given to us.
Present minded focus is something called flow state. I don't know if its been proven per say, but you know what it is. That feeling you get when you're lost in a homework assignment, or a project at work, or any task at hand. That feeling when time kind of melts a way, or you lose track of time. Okay, if you haven't experienced it at any of those other things then you've definitely experienced it when you were passionate or excited about something. Shit, you probably experienced it when you got lost in a video game. I feel its just helpful to know there's something like this because you can try to recognize it. This is the same flow state we're trying to achieve with a present minded focus. You can't enter your flow state when you're hindered by expectation though. So learn to smell the roses and understand its okay to be discouraged when life doesn't pan out according to plan, it doesn't mean we have to let this discouragement dictate our lives though. If we learn to take moments as they come and appreciate them for what they are then we can take a level headed approach when trying to discern them. If you're hindered by your expectations that means you're letting the inner voice in your head paint the landscape in front of you. Seperate yourself from those expectations and make the best of life whatever throws at you, so be it a date, a hardship or whatever other lemons life has.
I guess this was a pretty long introduction for a field report. This weekend I hit a couple places down the street from my house. I decided to stop by the first time after leaving a buddies house to grab some pizza. The second time I went was because I was coming home from the riverfront after celebrating pride today here in Detroit. Both times I went in a spurt of the moment so it was hard to get hindered by expectations. I didn't really know what to expect. Both times have reaffirmed the things I mentioned above in me. The first time, the place was pretty packed for a rap concert that was going on. The show was over by the time I got there, but there were plenty of people hanging out outside of the venue and on the terrace. I started bullshitting with this random guy there and next thing I know he's sparking up a blunt with me. What would you know that right after he sparked up two girls came by intrigued by the smell ready to smoke. After bullshitting with the group for a little, the girls started to assume that we were together, which led the guy to spark up two more blunts, by a means to impress them. All of them were rolled in wax and dipped in kief Detroit style. By the 2nd blunt, the guy barely mustered out his name and was passing me off half of the blunt to finish. As he walked away I let the two girls know that "I didn't even know that guy..he just met me and sparked up?" Afterwards, I grabbed the snapchat name of the girl I was into outta the two hugged both of em and started walking away. There was an employee there who asked if he could hit the blunt the guy gave me. Fosho. That led to him buying me a beer today while I was hanging out at the same venue for a rooftop party. But this field report has gone on long enough with my adderall, marijuana fueled rant. Stop being little pussys when life throws you curveballs. Learn to make the best out of situations. I don't know, i'm still trying to figure all this stuff out myself. I'll let you know when I do.
