I was out Wednesday and I talked to a lot of girls as usual. My wing has AA so he'll often point out some girls and say "Why don't you talk to them?". I have internalized the 3 second rule so I just walked over and say "Hi, how are you". I must have been in a good mood or the weather getting nicer has a positive effect because the girls opened really easy. It is strange when walking up to a set and opening really is the sort of thing you do often so you don't have to fake it. You don't need any opener when you are confident.
I had a very embarrassing incident where a girl I recognized walked straight up to me and acted like we were old friends. Her face was familiar but I didn't believe we had ever spoken to one another. I had to be honest because of the context of the things she was saying - I just couldn't remember where I had met her. She said "you probably remember my friend, the blonde girl" and my face gave it away - her friend was quite pretty. Strangely enough, so is she. I have never drawn so blank before - it was surreal.
I got into a conversation with a guy I've seen a few times. I think he studies a bit of game. He insisted to me that Facebook is a superior means to getting the date instead of the mobile. He said the idea was girls just ignore texts (as the nearly weekly flake FR's show) but they'll Facebook almost anyone. He waits until they are online at the same time as him and drops her a brief few messages to let her know what he is up to and if she wants to come along. I say that the impersonal "friendly" nature of it means you just become another lost face in her 600 friend list. We are debating this back and forth when the girls we came with came into the conversation so I used it as an impromptu opener: "Would you rather a guy ask for your number or contact you on Facebook?". She says "phone is more intimate" which for her is good because she likes to think the interaction is more special than how she uses facebook with everyone else.
I see two girls, one of them decently pretty. I say "let's try it out". I interrupt them "sorry, we are having a debate and I want a woman's opinion". How textbook is that? Except it is actually situational given we had been debating the issue for five minutes. I choked up a bit on the delivery! I couldn't believe myself as I started to stutter a bit. Thankfully it was only for 10 seconds or so and I came back strong but I almost slipped. They both agreed that Facebook was far better in their opinion. They said if they were iffy about the guy in person they wouldn't answer his text but they would definitely answer a message. I told her if she was iffy about responding to my text then I wouldn't even want her number or her Facebook. We had quite a good 20 minute conversation. I left to go to the bathroom and when I came back I said "It's time for me to go ... can I have your Facebook?". She said "yes" and I said "No, I was just kidding. I don't want it. If you want to give me your phone number then maybe I'll call you. But I'm not interested in your Facebook."
The moral of the story is that I ended up taking her Facebook details instead of her number and I'm going to try it out and see if it works for myself. I hear people say we shouldn't take the advice we hear on seddit too seriously and we should try and see what works. I'll post if anything interesting comes of all of this.
