If you barely know her, don't, just don't. Its something only lovers and hairdressers do, you don't want her to think you're a hairdresser.

If you've built up attraction, and you're starting to touch each other playfully, sure. You can gently brush her hair past her ear without causing too much damage. You can also run your nails up the back of her head (and then pull if you're at that point). Both of these things are quite gentle without touching the main part of her hair.
