My mindset going into this kind of trip would be, "I'm going to have fun, introduce myself to lots of people and have a good time. If I want to go on a hiking day trip (etc.), I'm going to do it and I don't give a shit if anyone else I know will be there."

This leads to you changing the normal phrasing of "Hey does anyone want to go on a hike?" to "I'm going on a hike, you should come". Go anyway and have fun. Do stuff you want to do!

This leads to being outcome independence, don't give a shit if you get laid or not, just have fun.
