Help curing my pathetic cold approach game?

Do it 100,000. Learn through your awkward failures.

After 100,000 your social intelligence/calibration will improve.

What you did well: Acknowledged IOIs and WENT FOR IT. That is all you should be concerned about. Outcome independence. You didn't have it progress, but you did it anyway.
What may have helped: Approaching this cold where there is social pressure, ie people around in Starbucks, the baristas, can be challenging.

You opened with "I know you're probably headed to class," and she gave you a questionable look. It probably felt too random for her because cold approaches are uncommon, AND it begs the question, "why the fuck are you talking to me? and why do you want to know my name? that's invasive and personal" So...
It could have helped by being more direct right off the bat... AND acknowleding the fact that you are breaking social norms with a cold day approach. "hey, I know this is random, but I thought you were super cute. I would have regretted not saying hi." OR...
When in doubt, I like to just say what's going on in my head... "hey I was just waiting for my coffee, and I couldn't help noticing you, and knew I had to say hi. I'm XYZ. --> Cold read "you seem like a student at XYZ university."
In the end however, it is not WHAT you say, but HOW you say it, and the body language with which you do so. Being light and self-amused would have helped in this situation, lending brevity to the situation instead of seriousness.

Approach 100,000. Don't memorize lines. You will find your own cold style. Situational comfort will always help. You did well, keep going.

I think a lot of people will say that you should had talked to her the moment you saw her and not wait for the next "meet", but what I want to point out is that you apparently already know the follow up but just you choose not to follow what you had already in your mind

This girl is cute. I want to learn more about her

So do exactly that, ask what she is studying, where she is going etc.. At least you'll appear to be legitimately interested. Plus that was your oppening, you stopped her before class so you can follow up with that.

You can't be thinking about the outcome, every interaction you get rejected just think to yourself 100/10 to hack your brain into liking it. then you will continue to pick up energy the more interactions you do. if you are able to get outside of a scarcity mindset and out of your head then you wont even care if the interaction goes well or not. (input more RSD type stuff here). you have to maintain your confident state throughout the entire interaction especially since when you start getting good the girls will start to shit test you which is a good sign.

Make some comments about her: "I'm guessing you're a communications major." or You could do a direct approach telling her you think she's cute and then say; "I'm guessing you're heading off to class. What are you studying?"

And your cold approach isn't pathetic. You do that fine. It's keeping the conversation flowing that needs work.
