I treat first messages like a creative writing exercise. I take whatever they give me and try to write something that makes me laugh. Her liking my terrible humour is essential because I'm not going to stop being a moron for her, so it also acts as a filtration system for women who are likely to be compatible with me.

Don't look for one-size-fits-all openers - it's lazy. If their profiles are dry, don't match. This is the reason why dating apps bleed men dry - because they're too flippant with their matches.

But... Gun to head... If they have a voice prompt and you like their voice, compliment it. This opens up using voice notes more readily, and they're way better at building attraction than dull words.

Have a direct opener that is playful and fun (direct meaning romantic interest is established through first text) and then playfully banter for 2-3 messages. If she is bantering back and being playful, I ask her out on the date. If she says anything other than a yes, it's a no, and on to a next.

I ask her out by asking what her availability is to go on a date during a specific time frame and don't ask for a specific day, but a range (like availability next week). Once she gives it to me, I give her a location and time to meet there. I get her number, and send her a text telling her who it is.
