Find common ground among your peers. Things that aren't work related. Im sure there's a handful of people there who enjoy similar interest. As for the age, I think you're looking at it backwards: You're the youngest person in the room working on the same level of things they are, and you think THEY are smarter. That's like being a 12yo in a collage classroom. You must be awesome at your job to have made it this far this fast. Chances are, they are intimidated by the genius who thinks he's to good to talk the the rest of us and just sit quietly in his little cube...

Go make some friends.

An intern is not supposed to be the alpha. You wouldn't get hired as an interne if you weren't a noob. You are there to recognize their years of experience and learn from it, perhaps even understand how they made their way in their professional life, and that you might even be able to do that yourself.

The old book "How to win friends and influence people" is probably relevant here since it deals with the business world. It talks about ways to get people on your side in business, but alas I'm tired and can't remember the specifics at the moment. Go check it out.

You are there to learn. Is this a field you want to work with when you graduate? Is this the firm you'd like to work at? And of course, this is your chance to learn your profession.

If you don't like the people now, you wont like them when you get hired either.

When you graduate, you will suck. 15+ years is a long time. Of course they master their skills. Do not get frightened over this. If they don't understand that you ask questions because you are an intern they lack a lot of insight and you probably wont learn much when you get hired.

You are not the alpha. Ever when it comes to the profession. They have 15+ years! Do not try to challenge them. You have nothing to gain. All to lose. You are there to LEARN! Ask question. Ask for help. LEARN! Teammates that don't want to exchange knowledge are small people. Assholes even.

You are dumb. You don't have 15+ years. Come back in 15+ years. Then you wont be dumb. Accept this. They must also accept this. Or else they are not great colleagues and mentors.

The only way you can be alpha is if you have something they don't. I'm semi alpha at work when it comes to partying. I run around at the club chasing girls when they have their beers. They think it is so much fun. It's ok, because I'm the kid. I'm young. I know how to party. They are 45+ and only know house music through their children. They have forgot. Clubbing is my field of expertise. I'm the one the women dances with. People follow me around. At work, at meetings, when we are discussing things, I'm the bitch. I don't have a need to be superior to my superiors. When I see something odd, I point it out, but I never state: "This is wrong!". I say, "Excuse me, I noticed this. I think it looks weird. Shouldn't it be this or that?". Then they say either "Yes, that is a valid point. Do this and this and see if that will work". Or they say"Oh, no. That is no problem because of this and this. I understand the confusion, but when dealing with this and this, it is safe to ignore it".

Talk to people one on one when you ask questions. Be very polite. Do you have time to show me/ explain/ help me? Accept a no, but they should respond politely. Gauge them. Do you get along this person?

Grab a coffee. Small talk. Gauge these persons. Do you think you could be casual with them?

Eat lunch with people you have talked to. If you are comfortable, ask them basic questions. What do they do. Where did they study. Remember, they have chose a path that might turn out to be your path. Learn so you can make wise decisions later in your career. Have a friendly tone. Build comfort around these people. Then it is easier to ask them questions and discuss problems.

Do this and get to know these people. Some people will make an effort to make you feel welcome. Others wont. Stick with the people you are comfortable with and take it from there.

Age is actually just number. These are not your friends. Joke about trivial stuff. "Ahhh, sweet! Coffee!!". If you are semi comfortable with someone and they have this amazing lunch "Wow, that lunch looks amazing!". Just take it easy. Ask questions. Get comfortable. Small talk. Discuss problems.

Ease in your personality. When you feel safe with someone, be yourself. Don't tell nazi jokes, or make jokes about that grenade still sleeping in your bed. Be respectful, be curious and learn.

being an intern is all about making a good impression, kissing hte right asses, and staying just above the radar to be seen but not high enough that you piss people off.

if you want - talk about outside interests that are alpha
