talk about the following shit:
1) deep shit 2) silly shit 3) your own emotions 4) her emotions

How would you get into the topic of her emotions/deep shit

you have to be the master of the converesation; not her. You guys talk about what YOU want to talk about, not vice versa.

I understand that part, but i meant how would you open up to that kinda of topic? Would you be all like "what do you love doing?" that kinda way? or what
[–]HappyJerk 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
yeah. remember, there are no rules for conversation other than the ones YOU make

I think that line would be perfect. I usually say with a little bit of sarcasm and smile (kind of acknowledging how cliche it is), "what are you passionate about?" Doesn't put you in a vulnerable situation and turns the tables over to her.

Something I have figured out is that people will tell you a lot more than you think. I am particularly good at getting into deep stuff. Generally I will ask about her family. Almost always through casual conversation she will mention her parents/siblings. When she is done talking about whatever she was saying concerning that then move the conversation to "Are you close with your parents/brother/sister/family. Be prepared to get into some deep stuff because more often than not people have some less than ideal family life.

Bingo, Thank you. Got to excited for my date, then I started to panic. Needed that articulation.

How do you usually transition to deeper things?
[–]HappyJerk 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
You just have to do it. One thing that you learn in conversations with girls is that you can't just "go with the flow" - because somebody has to control the flow, and its going to be her. Its cool to go with the flow when you're hanging out with your friends, but you can't be afraid to take the conversation to a really deep, insane, place when you're talking to a girl.

Thanks. What would you consider deep conversation? I've never had a deep conversation with a girl before. I've tried to initiate one but she wasn't very responsive.

Use it as an opening scene to gauge interest and either have something else to do planned if time and interest in her allows; or walk around and find something random and join in if you walk by.
I usually do the second. Or at least portray the first as the second. Theres a museum downtown where I live that has some pretty weird and wacky exhibits, and its by the waterfront, so I meet up by the waterfront and just walk up that way. Some pointers though, try different coffee venues, specifically the ones that aren't like Starbucks or Tim Hortons if you live in Canada like me. Try local ones, its good for their business and allows you to enjoy different blends if you love coffee like I do.
Just to add, coffee in itself is pretty boring but puts you on mutual ground. Your both there to see if each one is interesting to the other in a non threatening environment. She has to be the deciding factor in if its going somewhere else, theres been plenty of times where 30 minutes into talking to the girl "Hey Ive got prior engagements and I have to go".

A coffee date is the definitive interview. Think of it as an interview for the real date: Do I like this person enough to buy her dinner? It's your job to find out, and her job to make the sale.
DO NOT try to make a coffee date romantic. That basically makes no sense. Meeting for coffee is intrinsically platonic. It's a very powerful and no nonsense way to meet people. Don't try to make it something it's not.
Or, to directly answer your question: Bring yourself. The whole goal is that you two find each other fun. If that's present you won't need to engineer a source of fun. Besides, you shouldn't want to do that. A person where you need to work to have fun on day one is a person where you'll need to work to have fun every succeeding day. A person who effortlessly finds you fun will be far easier to keep entertained.

by being a fun person

It's an interview for both of you so you should have fun and if she does her part (has fun) it worked. The more you make her smile and laugh the better you do and the same goes for her about making you smile and laugh.
