Physical engagement. Arm around them when talking, etc.

I agree with this 100%.

For instance, one time a girl asked me to come to her apartment and fix her computer. While I was working on it, I took a chance and simply placed my hand on her knee while I was talking to her, looking her in the eye.

That little bit of physical contact makes all the difference in the world.

As crazy as this sounds, I've actually had this happen twice, where a girl basically said "please fix my computer" and it turned out that they actually wanted to date. The girl that I describe in this story, we actually wound up dating for five years. Our first "date" was basically me fixing her computer. We didn't hook up on the first date (though I probably could have!) but I basically used the situation as an excuse to get a drink. "Hey, since I'm in the area, why don't we go to this bar around the corner and get a drink? I'd like to see your neighborhood."

This last part is important too. OP, I've noticed in your posts, you are often complimenting the girl. Don't do that. Instead, compliment something else. For instance, say "You live in an interesting neighborhood, can you show me around?" Or "I like how you decorated your place."
