How would you deal with this situation?

Get together and say hey we should make a budget for reason X. Where X could be saving for childs college, vacation, etc. Make a budget and expand out everything. Don't do the talking when the numbers can talk much louder. Instead of forcing your point let your wife lead herself to the conclusion.

Not a smooth-talking reply. But if she flips out tell her to grow the fuck up. Also, if you discuss money, and budgets, make sure you both are on the same page with luxury purchases. Certainly if she can afford to be frivolous, so can you. Obviously the reality is, neither of you should be spending on luxuries that are not needed. A good way of illustrating that is the idea that you can't practically join in on such fun.

He shouldn't have married to this woman in the first place. He should have qualified her and discovered she was unreasonable and high maintenance.

But now it's too late. This is an argument that depends on the undeniable economic facts. Unfortunately, no amount of logic is ever going to win an argument with a woman. She's only prepared to accept one solution: she keeps spending money like it was water, and he works himself to death working so he can give her all the money she wants.

Open new bank account in my own name, make all of my income payments go into it. Talk to wife and say you're being un-reasonable and not working with me, so here is the monthly budget for X, Y, and Z... probably followed by a divorce. (This is assuming I'm the sole provider of income of course, if shared, I'd offer up my fair share to cover these costs)
