Hello again sedditors! I just had this thought last night about how if you have one-itis* and realize you do, would it be possible to use it to overcome Approach Anxiety? Well let me tell elaborate on how I have come up with this hypothesis (hypothesis NOT a theory).
It is my understanding that one-itis means that you are infatuated with a particular woman and will do anything to gain her favor, so this is what I mean when I say "one-itis" in this thread
A couple of days ago, nay, a couple of weeks ago I thought I was cured of such "one-itis" ; after all I have finally made an approach and gained some confidence however minuscule it might be. Apparently not. Yesterday I found out that a girl that I used to talk to in highschool (never got in a relationship distance was one of the factors of the mutual decision we had to not pursue one), is considering getting engaged with her current BF.
I didn't know what to think. Like the lyrics from one of my favorite songs "...and I always thought I would end up with you...eventually" that was how I felt all of a sudden. All of the old feelings suddenly crept up...but only for a few minutes. I realized that if her approval is the only one that matters to me, then why should it matter what every OTHER girl in the world thinks? And here my friends, is where I got my hypothesis of "is it possible to use 'one-itis" to overcome AA?"
May I have your opinion on my thoughts? I understand that this may be just a quick-fix and the ultimate goal is to overcome one-itis, but if you overcome AA and meet a girl that DOES interest you, wouldn't that cure you of your one-itis? From my experience in life so far, I noticed that I never get over a girl until I find another girl that I find interest in.
tl;dr : My hypothesis is you can use one-itis to overcome AA because you have the mindset that the only approval that you seek for at the moment is the girl you have one-itis for; because of that mindset, you can approach a girl thinking that she has nothing to offer you. Of course once you say "hi" or w/e opening you say, you get rid of the mindset that "she has nothing to offer" as the purpose of using the one-itis was just to get over the anxiety you feel when you approach someone.
Thoughts?
