"I'm married" joke, how to handle challenges?

Just stop using jokes that don't land? But the bigger problem however is you expect a good response.

You shouldn't say jokes because you expect an outcome, you should only say them because you genienly find them funny even if no one laughs with you, and then learn to smoothly change topics quickly if the reaction was null to show that you don't need other people's approval and smoothy get to another topic.

The reason they are not laighing is because they probably feel you are serious and as such that makes you an instant red flag to them. A cheater. They are not gonna celebrate that because they feel bad for your "wife" even if you have no wife.

So being funny requires a little bit of social intelligence for jokes to land. If after that, you say "i was kidding im not married" then it feels like you are hiding something because they did not respond well, (you are being approval-seeking) instead of seeing it as something humorious that was meant to stir them.

And if you explain the joke, you'd look even worst.

So the problem is you want to be funny without being a funny person which can easily come across as try-hard,, and worst that you expect people to reconize your sense of humor, and when they don't you immidiately second guess yourself because deep down you are not fully convinced it's funny and that energy is something that women can feel on an instict level.

So the only way to recover after you say a bad joke is bieng quick enough to recgonize it didn't land and change topics so that it doesn't look like you were waiting for a reaction at all from your comment. That way the'll quicly forget and move on without dwelling too much on it.

But my advice is use other type of jokes.

“I’m married” is not a particularly good line unless it is delivered perfectly in proper context and in a calibrated way. Even then it could be misinterpreted by the girl and taken as literal rather than a joke. Disqualifiers are good game. For example, “we’d never work out”, “I’d be the worst boyfriend of all time” because it shows you are willing to walk away . “I’m married” rules out the possibility of a relationship entirely and also introduces ethical issues to a girl.

Don’t push boundaries with people you don’t know well because then you probably won’t get to know them well. And don’t push boundaries with people you know well because that’s how you end up ruining friendships and relationships. Also, no, girls don’t like married men. That’s just what married men like telling themselves. And yes, don’t joke about it because that’s a huge turn off.

You’ve got to create a more playful back and forth, I like to get agree on something super common, like ‘loving the breeze’

‘oh me too, it’s nice in the heat’

‘I already know enough, I think we should get married’

Not just refer to her as your wife, if you make any jokes that don’t land, you can blame it on the marriage falling apart, but always keeping it playful in a lala land. Then you can try your joke, but I am not sure you are creating the atmosphere to pull these direction shift jokes if you aren’t in that mode.
