I always hear the distinction between introverts and extroverts being described as the former being most just being alone or with a limited number of people, and the latter wanting to be among lots of people. It’s also often said that extroverts get energy from social interaction, while for introverts it depletes their energy.

In my case though, I love interacting with loads of people. I’m just terrible at it. There’s nothing I love more than being out with a bunch of people and even talking to random strangers. However, most of the time I’m too shy to do the latter. I know this sounds like a huge contradiction. But sometimes for some reason it does slip out, and I feel so good doing it. But this only happens every so often. Sometimes I want to be social, but I just don’t know how to start. I’m probably too much in my head thinking about what to say instead of just blurting something out.

Just wanted to share this because I often read stuff saying something along the lines of “if you’re an introvert, you can never become an extrovert”. I think we have to differentiate between introverts who simply don’t want to have too much social interaction on the one hand, and people who would like to have more social interactions, but who are just not good at it. I think the fact that we’re on this forum might mean that many of us have an extrovert deep inside, just waiting to get out. That’s just my two cents. Feel free to contribute your own thoughts on the matter.

Also, if you have any tips for someone in my position, please do share.
