There are a lot of cool things to do to meet and hang with mixed groups of people.

Hash runs - Running or walking + hide and seek + alcohol at the end and it's casual enough that you could drink in the middle too.
Couchsurfer meets. A good group of open minded people. (Guess you have to be if you're theoretically open to hosting random strangers from the Internet.
Social partner dance communities. Salsa, Argentine tango, Lindy hop, West coast swing, etc. Good for socializing. Also for honing core social skills. Think about it: there's a reason that dancing has often been a cornerstone of courtship customs among many human cultures, dating back centuries. Don't know how to dance? Great! No one else can either before they take classes. And they're usually short on guys.

That's tough. I'd say local bar a few nights. Find some classes, doesn't matter what it is depends what you're comfortable with. Yoga, dancing, business networking whatever. I reckon that's a good start. Depends how old you are but the local university might have some public talks which is a great way to meet cool students from there if you're not studying.

I just moved to a new city last week. I've already met some fantastic people through clubs (cars, hiking, professional mixers).

I've also met a bunch of people through music. I'm fortunate that the EDM scene in my city is very welcoming.
