Do you think women are into most of our DHV's? Do you think they like football or soccer or whatever the fuck it is everyone brags about to women? They don't care. They don't give a shit. All its telling them is that you strive for something in your life. That's the point.

So to answer your question: Yes. Being a high level amateur jazz pianist is something you should be mentioning briefly or having brought up in conversation.

And to answer your elaboration: You should not be trying to show this off. I've played soccer my whole life and am half decent by American standards (which fucking blow) but you don't see me trying meet girls at a bar and pull them to a day 2 at the field unless they're into that as well.

From experience, with me being bass player to many a band, I find it is more of an aphrodisiac if you are part of a band rather than solo because it's proof you are a somewhat socialised being since you are able to communicate successfully with your musician peers.

If you are high level on your piano skillz, then get a three piece going and earn some money at the weekends. Organise it by yourself, it's not hard. A fifteen song jazz setlist can take you through three or four hours with breaks. Just use somebody else's demo to get the gigs and turn up and play what you want, bar managers never have a frickin clue about what sounds good anyway.

Chicks love musicians. I played a gig last weekend and I had just plugged in my bass to tune up when this smoking hot bar girl introduced herself to me pretty forthrightly. I couldn't gauge her popularity to really give her a (scale)number but looks wise she was a strong 8. I number closed her right there, in case I "needed to book another slot for the band".

Well I booked a slot alright the next evening, but the band certainly wasn't involved!

I play the drums, and I've noticed that I get a shitload of attention from girls after I'm done playing. I won't opine as to the logic behind this since it would be conjecture, and makes little difference.

Piano is by far sexier than the drums, so....

Being a saxophone player, myself, I know what you mean. I found that there's a way to DHV yourself towards everyone - just go out and play somewhere. If it's a pub with a piano, a jam session, whatever. Just play.

When people ask you what you do, don't say "I play the piano." That's just four words for something that is far more. Instead, try this storytelling formula I've read:

When I was little, I really liked X
When I was a teenager, Y happened
Now I am Z, and I prove that you can chase your dreams.

Are you kidding? It's a chick magnet. If you're amateur, don't mention at the beginning. Ask her hobbies and tell her about piano when she asks back. But it's even better if you're actually playing. Just go to some jam sessions in your area. Then mention it casually.

I have to go against almost everyone here. I play guitar decently (not great) and I can sing pretty well (I get asked to sing by my friends quite often). I played in a garage punk rock band for 10+ years and we played a fair number of shows. I've traveled 5-6 months total through Europe (spread across a few years) with an acoustic guitar in tow.

First, simply mentioning that you play won't do anything regardless of the disinformation you hear. Second and most importantly - the musicians who get girls are the guys who would have gotten the girl anyway. What I mean is, your talent will rarely have anything to do with it.

For example, I was in Venice and I met another guy with a guitar. He wanted us to jam together and I was game. We had a group of about 6 girls and 4 guys and we played for them, just goofing around. I've been playing 12 years and like I said, I'm not great but I am decent. This guy had been playing 6 months and he was ... not good. At all. But he was quite a good looking fellow. Guess who all the girls wanted to show them how to play the guitar? Hint: not the guy who actually has been playing for 12 years. I could fill this page with similar stories.

I'll admit to 2 or 3 hookups I managed that I don't believe would have happened if I didn't have the guitar and if I hadn't played for a group of people. That is, I would be playing some covers for a group and some girl would suddenly think I was amazing. But 2 or 3 times is drastically small. You better be playing jazz piano because you love it or you better also be good looking. Combined that is a powerful combination, but talent on its own will impress only a very small number of people.
