Good progress thus far! What i'm about to say will probably be down voted to hell and may come off as douchey. But when I was younger I had terrible confidence issues with women. I Could not catch a break for the life of me. One day an acquaintance a few years older than I gave me some advice that has worked for me since, or at least built my confidence high enough to just approach women without a second thought. Usually with success.

"Compliment complete strangers" This might sound weird but it helps. Let's say you're standing in line at the food court on campus. Compliment someone next to you. Start with guys. "Hey, dude. Those are sweet shoes." Be sincere, Don't say anything else. It's just practice to talk to strangers. Once you've got that down, give simple compliments to random women. "I love your wristlet, where did you get it?" She's not gonna think you're gay or weird, she will assume you are interested in buying it for another woman. Again this is just practice, we're not making moves yet.
"You've gotta hit a few grounders before you can hit a home run." IE: Rate yourself. If you rate yourself a 7/10 or what have you, continue to make girls laugh as you pass them; however, find a girl that you perceive as two points lower on the "scale" than you are. Make her laugh, and then continue talking to her. Get her number, flirt, have fun, or just keep it plutonic. It's all about building confidence. Continue doing this with girls "2-3 points" below you until you feel confident enough that you could approach any girl "2-3 points" below you with success. Move up a point, repeat process. So on and so forth.

You'll eventually be comfortable with putting yourself out there, and if you happen to get turned down, you'll know it's no big deal because there are plenty of other women for you to peruse.
