I have a female friend who is trying to set me up with her recently single friend. The friend has said she's interested, we've met a handful of times in passing while she was dating her old boyfriend. I don't have the girl's number but my friend gave it to me and said her friend wants to hang out.

I've never texted a girl after getting her number from a mutual friend. That seems weird to me, but I don't want to wait till the next time we all end up hanging out again (might be too late in a few weeks, who knows). If I know the girl is interested should I just swallow my pride and text her (even though I got her number from my friend)?

Don't want to seem desperate, especially since she is out of town this weekend (going home for her sisters birthday), so I won't be able to hang out with her till next week.
