I use make up regularly and I cannot express enough how fantastic it works. Since i started using makeup my success rate doubled if not tripled. The trick is too not use too much so you're glittery, but use enough to give yourself a clear matte look. Girls are much more open to a guy approaching them if he looks like he has healthy clear skin.

Then depending on you're type of face shape you can go on to do extra contouring if you like.

I, for example, start with moisturizer, (exfoliate every now and then), some concealer in case i'm getting red patches followed by a liquid foundation (good for dry skin). That would be basics. Start there if anything. If you're comfortable and it suits your face type you can add some shadows to cheekbones and nose to contour, thin eyeliner if you have weak eyes etc. The trick is to not over do it.

I know people will tell you "It's not necessary, be confident" etc etc. Which is very true but the confidence you get when you look in the mirror and see yourself with perfect skin and defining facial features gives you a huge boost in confidence.

As someone with skin that looks like I had my face dipped in hot oil, I'd like to know if anyone has had any success with using makeup.

Lots of malls and stores that have make-up will have someone that knows a good deal about make-up and will do a free demo. I know this may sound weird but go up to them and ask for a make-up demo and tell them what you're looking to do. They will give you good advice.

You might want to try some skincare products to get you skin healthy and better looking. It's a lot less looked down upon and better for you face (I assume). Maybe there is a reddit on the subject, if not here is a youtube channel from a guy who does videos on style and skincare etc. Could be handy I think.

First off, what's wrong with your skin? Have you considered visiting a dermatologist?

I've used make-up in the past and plan on using it again once I get my acne under control. I'd recommend checking out the make-up counter at a large department store. The main thing with wearing make-up is making sure you get the correct shade. If it's too dark or light it will look horrendous. The people who work at the make-up counter will surely be able to help you. It's becoming more socially acceptable for men to wear make-up so there is no need to feel embarrassed.

I think it's important to note that things that are marketed as "male make-up" tend to be more expensive and of inferior quality to brands targeted towards females.

I would check out the Youtube channel MensSkincareWithRoss. The guy who runs the channel has amazing skin and has a lot of great tips and tricks. He has a great video on the absolute basics of skincare which is a great starter point.

Also, have you considered going to a saloon/day-spa and getting a facial? They feel fantastic.

Make-up is a great short-term fix, but you should really try to improve your skin as much as you can. Go on a full out skincare regimen! Your diet can have a tremendous impact on the way your skin looks. Make sure that you drink A LOT of water!

I would use foundation mostly on the chin to hide beard stubble and lots of mascara. You can't have enough mascara. Also try shaving your eyebrows and drawing them back on with a sharpie. For peacocking, make the eyebrows squiggly lines and add a curly mustache.
