One of the best life lessons my father thought me was just to "engage" everyone and anyone as in both male and female, young and old. Your confidence grows with each conversation. If you're waiting at a bus stop and there is only one other person there, start some small talk, you can quickly gauge if they are receptive or not and then decide to carry on the conversation or leave them be. People sometimes feel uncomfortable but others are more than happy to have a conversation. I find that it makes conversations with people you find attractive a lot easier and you lose the desperation vibe that can be off-putting.

I've been where you are(including the sadness) but talking with random strangers has helped me fell less awkward and shy.

Keep trying, it will click for you when you least expect it.

A few months ago I moved to a new city and I didn’t know anyone.

Now I have a bunch of friends.

And I met most of them by going out alone.

I used to be shy and super self conscious, but I decided to go out alone anyway.

It was scary at first, but I stuck to two rules:

Talk to everyone
Open the first girl I see

Go to popular spots with lots of people.

Just say “hey” and then ask for their name. Take it from there.

Most people want to chat and meet new people.

If they don’t, move on to the next person.

It only takes one or two convos before you’re warmed up and ready to go.

If people find out you’re alone, usually they’re more impressed than weirded out.

Make going out alone a habit and soon you’ll be slaying in your new city.

Go to high volume bars/clubs. I realized something the last couple times I’ve gone. I’ll go with one or two other guys, both interested in game. We’ll get separated. I then proceed to make a fair amount of approaches alone. Being that these places are high volume, it’s difficult to find these guys again (being that they are also approaching). So I’m essentially there by myself even though I’m technically with a couple friends. At one point, I really was at the place by myself because my approaches were going well and they wanted to hit up another place, so I stayed for an extra 45 minutes. I realized that if I actually went to these places by myself, all I would have to say if asked was that I’m waiting for my friends/lost my friends/don’t know where they went, going to meet them in a little bit, just felt like coming out etc. And absolutely no one will care. This would probably work in low volume areas too. But I prefer high volume because it’s almost impossible for others to notice

A great way is to join a club/sports team. Approaching girls randomly is very creepy.

But if you have a reason to e.g. you're in the same club, it's ok!
