Most of the people I get drinks with are out of town for the weekend. It was 11:00 PM on my clock last night, and I was considering watching True Detective, browsing Reddit, and going to sleep (which doesn't happen till 4 AM during the weekends) since it would be lame to go out solo. After some thinking I convinced myself to go out solo instead since it couldn't be worse than going to sleep early on a Friday night.

God damn! That was a smart move! I met so many people and ran into people I knew from previous classes and work, but never hung out with. I genuinely enjoy meeting people and I try to talk to as many people possible during my night outs. I also make it a point to get the bartender's and bouncer's names whenever they ID me or serve me a drink. This helps so much - I don't get IDed any more, I get the bartender's discount on drinks, and addressing people by name sparks a connection compared to "Hey! A pint of Pale Ale please." All it takes is remembering a few names and truly caring about my small talks with them. People seem to always love a genuine, short conversation.

By the end of the night, I got cold pints with a few acquaintances, hung out with 3 new groups of people, met some new staff members, and ran into one of my professors. It was funny to see the professor in a buzzed state.

In summary, no #-closes or k-closes which is the usual norms for night FRs in Seddit, but I thoroughly enjoyed the night and went to sleep around 3 A.M.

One thing I realized that could motivate you to go out solo if you enjoy meeting people:

When you go in a group, you will more than likely stick to the group for the most part. You may see other people and talk to them, but either you or the person you are talking to will let you get back to the group and move on. However, when you go solo nothing limits you to a particular group. You can always exit when you want and switch between multiple groups and people as you please. You don't have to stay loyal to one group and feel guilty for ditching them for someone or a group much more fun.

This way you meet a lot more people and it is similar to the "change in venue" tactic that many people employ on dates. You feel like you have had a lot more fun with different people in a short span of time than spend 3 straight hours in a group of same friends as last weekend.

Three Tips:

  • Do not get drunk so that you can actually hold conversations and not look like a fool. Save those impulsive decisions to take shots for the end of the night.

  • Do remember to buy a round or two if the group shares their pitcher with you.

  • Whatever you read here is a lifestyle, not something you do (perform) to get girls to like you. You mold your personality to become attractive and seductive. Faking confidence and using lines and routines will only yield short term results.

I am listing down some of things I would like to improve on:

  • Initially, I had to go around the pub multiple times looking for people I know who I can hang out with. I want to get in to new groups and become acquainted, but I would like to know of a few effective ways. Once I am in the group, most people enjoy my company.

  • When I walk, I walk like I have a purpose and somewhere to be. Last night, my purpose was to meet cool people, but I felt like I was walking aimlessly. Do you guys ever feel that?

Any other suggestions are welcome!
