You have to make the approach, how else is are you both going to start talking? Only other way is to start being in her friends group and slowly make your way to start talking to her through her friends. But if you want to be as efficient as possible then just directly talk to her.

So what if you don't have the confidence? Do it anyways.

I mean you didn't give very much context about this situation bro but I would say you should just say hello to her, make eye contact, do something communicative where you are acknowledging her presence and letting you know you are aware of her awareness.

Also when in doubt just say fuck it and add her on snapchat. But for the record talking to her in person is the better move it's how humans have interacted for tens of thousands of years and very few of them died from doing it so I think you'll be fine.

For example, if you’re at school then say you’re on your way to a particular area like the gym, cafeteria or maybe another class and offer to walk her to wherever class shes going to then offer to carry her backpack and as you walk with her you get to know her more ..
