After a few years of pause, I resumed going to bars and clubs. I was not entirely successful, I did it while traveling in Japan, I made these notes of what I learnt. Some are quite universal but some may be interesting to you.

I went into 6 different places over two nights, almost all are places for young people.

  1. There are always a few solo girls in there, not hookers. They seem to be waiting to be approached, normally sitting at the bar with a soft drink or standing alone somewhere in the club, but the approach rarely happens and they leave (see no. 3)
  2. There are groups of girls going for fun, dancing and drinking only, others literally go for being approached, especially the foreigners (non-Japanese)
  3. Almost no man approaches the girls, only a very few have the confidence to do this.
  4. Most Japanese are uninterested in foreigners, language is the main reason
  5. After 3-4 am people are so drunk that there is no point in trying seduce anyone, unless she is sober.
  6. After 4am men start to try and touch the girls. Things get uncomfortable.

Girls traveling are always more welcoming of approaches, doesn’t mean they will be easy, but definitely easier than the locals.

Most are quite young, early 20s, which is a good and a bad thing.

The good is that you will likely have more experience than the other guys who also tend to be shy, however on the flip side these girls are inexperienced, some might be Virgins and not willing to take risks with a stranger and foreigner, Besides the obvious, sex will not be as good.

Last note on 3 above, I was somewhat surprised to see that almost no one approaches girls, and the ones who do it are further divided into: 1) confident but can’t connect and seduce her yet and 2) confident, social funny and connects with girl fast.

So the main (re)learning is that by just approaching, you are already on a different level.
