A day ago, I posted this story about opening a girl at the local state park.

The TL:DR is that I, a guy in my early 50's, started a conversation with an adorable pixie and ejected a moment before getting her number when I realized she was young enough to be my daughter.

Tonight, something so strange happened ... well, it defies explanation. On with the report.

I was 2/3 through my workout when a girl sets up at a station near me. She was fucking built- she could be the sidebar model for r/hardbodies. Beautiful, too. Flawless, creamy white skin. And she was doing sets of strict pullups!

She was standing near a piece of equipment I needed, so I walked over, said 'hi', followed by 'excuse me'. That's it.

We started talking between sets. In less than 10 minutes, she'd revealed a great deal about herself. (This time, I asked her how old she was right away, lol. ) 22!!!

One of the things she mentioned is that she wanted to learn to box. I smiled.

Soon, I pardoned myself so I could finish my workout. 20 minutes after, I caught up to her again.

"Hey, I'm going to hit the heavy bag for a little while before I leave. If you'd like, I'll show you how to throw a punch- you can use my gloves", I offered. (I've been doing combat sports since I was her age!) BAM!

For the next 1/2 hour, I taught her a handful of basics and then showed her how they all fit together. She was loving it. Told her that she'd have to buy me a cup of coffee if she wanted another lesson. She was totally on-board.

At that point, I told her I had to go. Handed her my phone and she punched in her number.

Yea.

To recap: I met the gym goddess tonight. We connected- she actually stopped her own workout to go on an 'insta-date' with me. Effortlessly got her number and made plans. And I got an awesome workout.

Analysis:

  • I was on my purpose - I didn't need or want anything from her.

  • Covered all the fundamentals- centered, good eye contact, posture, vocal tonality, frame

  • I used basic conversational skills, like mixing statements with questions (then asking follow up questions), deep listening, using silence, keeping the focus on her instead of jumping in with my own stories, etc.

  • Got her to qualify herself

  • Kept the energy light.

  • Demonstrated value through action not props or bragging

  • Physical contact (appropriate and consensual)

  • Used an Assumptive number close (handed her my phone) - after all, it made sense to do that because we'd made plans. Then I called her immediately so she has my number saved.

Frankly, I'm still kind of staggered by the whole thing. Over the course of my life, I can count the number of times I've been this smooth. On the fingers of one hand.

If this hadn't happened to me, I would not have believed it. I still can't believe it.
