Hey all this is my first FR here and I'm pretty proud of myself even though this story didn't end with any closes it was my first major step into fighting my AA. I've been reading seddit for quite a few months now, but because I'm a sophomore in college (a tech school with a bad m/f ratio) and am a little young to hit the bar scene, I haven't had many good opportunities to try out most of the stuff I've been learning although I have been trying to build up my inner game. But let me get into what happened:

So I just finished my evening class and was walking through the library, I saw a four set consisting of HB8 HB7 HB7 and HB5 sitting at a table studying, I set my stuff down at a nearby table and pretty quickly made eye contact with HB8. Of course after being in this community for a while I knew that I should just go up and introduce myself to the group, unfortunately my AA kicked in worse than ever and insisted that it was a stupid idea. Well after sitting at my table for 5 minutes or so and catching HB8 glancing at me a few times, a friend seated nearby saw me and called me over. My AA had me jump at the opportunity to move away from the girls, although they were still within line of sight.

I pretty much spend the next 30 minutes trying to pump myself up, while casually talking to my friend, and every once and a while catching HB8 glancing over. Well after about 35 minutes I said fuck it all, and told my friend that I was going to the bathroom and that before I get back I'm going to walk over to and talk to that table of girls. Now I was committed. So I go to the bathroom, ball up, and go over.

I walk up to the table and stand there for a sec while they all notice and start to wonder why some random guy is standing there. Then I open with "I hope I'm not interrupting something important...well actually I do, my friend and I are having a bit of a disagreement and I was wondering if you all could help out". I get a couple hesitant "sures" to go along with their expressions of confusion (obviously this doesn't happen very often around these parts). And then I say probably one of the most random things I could think of "My friend is insisting that hamburgers are better than cheeseburgers, and I can't convince him that most people don't agree, what do you think?"

Almost as soon as I said that, it was like a light switch flicked for the group, they all started smiling and agreeing with me(obviously, who doesn't like cheeseburgers), and I could barely get in a word in, but manage to prolong that ridiculous line of questioning for about a minute and a half more. I then introduced myself and got all their names. I knew I didn't have much else to say so I tried to think of something from on here to get the # of HB8 which was my secondary goal here (primary goal was just going over and talking to them).

I look over at HB5 and say, "Hey, HB5 you're really pretty and I need to ask you something. Can I have your permission to get HB8's number?" After a few stunned moments she looks over at HB8 and says, "I don't think that's such a good idea." HB8 quickly adds in "Yeah I'm kinda seeing someone." I'm quick to respond, paraphrasing with another line from on here, "Oh, that's ok he doesn't have to come with us when we get coffee." I get this really awesome sort of shocked giggle from all around the group and HB8 takes a moment, but says after a slight chuckle, "I don't really roll that way." Now this whole time she's been smiling and agreeing with me when I said stuff and making strong eye contact, more than the other girls, so I was a bit surprised that it might not have been just a shit test. At this point I ran out of stuff to say and was proud of over coming my AA and thanked them all for helping me out with my disagreement and wished them luck studying and was gone...back to the table with my friend for a few more minutes.

That's just about it for the story, the whole thing probably lasted less than 5 minutes, but I know they talked about it, giggling a lot for the next 3 minutes. I know I didn't get a close but I'm happy I went over, and I know they'll remember it, and next time I'll have some tested lines and it won't take me 30 minutes to overcome the AA. Overall, far from perfect, but I think I'm on the right track.

Any advise on what I could have done a bit differently, major errors, and things to do again would be appreciated, but overall I just want to thank the community for helping me do something I never would have done before. It only goes up from here.
