I'm a Sikh in the US and I wear a turban. I'm 22, about 6'3 (maybe look taller with the turban), have a (well groomed) beard. I grew up in predominantly white area, through the whole 9/11 fiasco, and today, I'm very comfortable with who I am and my appearance is a matter of pride to me. A big part of that is that usually, I truly don't give a shit about what people think of me. But at the same time, I'm quite social. I've generally reached a point where I celebrate my life, am comfortable in most social settings including talking to random people without any issues. I am generally considered an interesting person to be around with. At the least that's what I believe.
Anyway, as a challenge to myself (with some sweet benefits, of course), I want to develop a unique gaming style for a person like myself. I've had some success with women, but they were mostly chances or fetishes. On one occasion, I did game, unknowingly, what I consider to be a HB9 (fit english / iranian beauty) with a same day f-close. This was before I was even aware of the world of PU. I was drinking in a bar, and decided, what the hell, I want to talk to this really cute brunette. I used her ethnic side to develop the conversation. Also, she was older than me, and was surprised to find out my age, and I teased her about it - "oh you are old, but lets see where this conversation goes" (or something along those lines). I recently read that line as a useful neg online, and I smiled to myself :)
Coming to what I think makes my situation unique. There is generally a consensus that "looks don't matter". Well, I think they do, at least for a first impression. I know this from personal experience. Some girls can get very intimidated when a middle eastern looking dude with a turban starts talking to them, or even looking at them. And here lies the problem - this is the only time I've become self aware of my looks and start loosing focus, which plummets my confidence, and I feel like shit after that, because a rejection like that means a bit more to people like me than, say, to a white guy. And so, being the over-analyzing idiot that I am, I spend days thinking about these incidents, and they cloud the successes that I have had.
So my question(s) to seddit is: what do I do in such a situation? I'm going to be swamped with work for a couple of month, so meeting new girls more than once a week is difficult. Do you have any suggestions to make myself seem less intimidating? My look, despite a large number of efforts to the mistaken identity, is linked with unpopular people that many girls have grown up disliking. I know I can't do anything about that, and am in the process of convincing myself I shouldn't try to change their view of me. Another thing: A girl I was talking to revealed that she assumed I wasn't allowed to have sex or some weird thing like that. I hope it was an isolated case, but if its not, will basic escalation techniques fix that (kino, eye contact, etc.)?
Finally, I assumed there aren't any turbaned PUA's out there. But if you exist, that would be awesome!
