When I was in high school I never used a locker and carried a very heavy bag around with me all day every day for 4 years of school. Naturally my back began to bend forward to compensate for the weight of the bag and I slouched for a long time. It just became the way I walked. I’m a decent sized guy (6 ft), but slouching forward made me appear shorter, less confident, and overall had me walking weirdly. I was made fun of by some for the way I walked.

Aside from the visual aspects, it also gave me a ton of back and neck pains since I was always putting excess pressure in my lower back by slouching.

About a year ago I started looking up YouTube tutorials and videos on how to properly walk with a good posture. I started practicing this every day which felt weird at first since I wasn’t used to walking that way (straight back, head facing forward, chest out, feet forward, long strides, open swinging hands).

With a lot of practice I actually began to feel taller and more confident than I did before. Not to mention, my back and neck pains and pressure began to disappear almost immediately. It was crazy how much of an effect fixing just one aspect of myself had on my overall life and nature.

Now I’m a completely different person than I was back then for a bunch of reasons, but I felt like sharing this as many people have bad walking tendencies than are either bad for you, show a lack of confidence or both without them even knowing!

I definitely think this is a nice tip for those of you out there that are looking for a way you can immediately better yourself.

If anyone has any good resources for learning or anything to add, please feel free to share!
