"How's it going?" this is the universal opener that works anytime.

What comes next? That’s the tricky part, because there are hundreds of ways to continue. From something like: "I was sitting at the table like a loner and thought I'd come over and talk to you" …to whatever you want: "You look so familiar, do you work at XYZ?" or "Are you friends with a tall brunette guy? He's my buddy, and I think I saw you with him..." sky is the limit....

Now, after 10–15 minutes, it's too late... Unless you stand up, take a 1–2 minute walk, and then break the ice.
