first people (not just girls) will throw out 10 or 15 follows and then unfollow , and hope people just stay followed to them . boost their ego and (popularity) as they have a better following/followers ratio.

You are also not clear on what your actual goal is , if its just to get followers then i wouldn't bother doing anything . If its to get numbers/dates then find either ask them about a post or just DM a question Like -hey do you study at ....... ) Then you can judge interest of that . GL

I recommend you build up gradually. DM is like going for sex without kissing her first. Like a few of her pics, maybe leave a comment (be reserved), try to get a mini-conversation going in the comments, then go for the DM.

That's what Christian Grey recommends in Instagram Seduction and it works well.
