There are myriads of things you can work on to improve your social game.
These are my favorites:
Voice & Tonality: I am not talking about trying out for the next American Idol. Personally I can’t sing in tune or out of tune, but I’ve learned to use my voice to my advantage. I think voice is as important, if not more, than body language. If words give content to our communication then tonality gives it context. Your voice is a powerful instrument that you must learn to play. How: Learn to control your voice and tone to add context to what you’re saying. Tons of great content on YT for that.
Passion & Emotion So many people live passionless lives that they are immediately drawn to someone with passion. I think it doesn’t matter what you’re passionate about, what matters is the degree of your passion. And you can get passionate about anything, start with your hobbies. You can even fake being passionate temporarily. How? Through voice & tone, body gestures, facial expressions and eye contact.
Story Telling: If i were to pick just one thing it would be storytelling. What is life except for a long string of stories. So learn the art of storytelling. A story can be told in a million different ways, but only few ways can resonate or stir something. So play with it, try telling the story in different ways. How? Add vivid metaphors to your stories, pepper in some humor, add suspenseful pauses, replace words with their synonyms, exaggerate and embellish, use words that convey feelings and less facts, use different tonality for different parts of the story. Practice using movie monologues from different genres and have fun.
Eye Contact: We all know that eyes are the windows into our souls. And yet we try to avoid eye contact as much as possible. Perhaps we’re scared to reveal our souls to others?? Regardless of what it is, you must be able to hold eye contact with anyone without fidgeting, without feeling it’s confrontational or aggressive. I don’t recommend holding eye contact minutes on end because that’s creepy. And please don’t forget to blink either. Holding eye contact shows respect as it show’s you’re giving the other person your full attention. How? Practice holding eye contact in the mirror. if you really can't hold eye contact, look at the person's forehead/eyebrow area. They won't know the difference.
Silence: Knowing when to shut up is so important. Please remember that. Through silence, you convey calmness and serenity, and silence invites the other person to speak and to open themselves to you even more.
Facial expressions: I have an expressive face. I am no Jim Carrey but I use my face a lot. Sometimes too much, and I hate it because I can never win a poker game. Your face can convey so many emotions that sometimes in ways words can't. Don't believe me? What comes to you mind when you watch Mark Zuckerberg speak? exactly, alien or robot. Don't be either when you speak.
My point is inch in our body is a tool for communication and how we choose to use it, or not use it, is up to us.
Cheers
