This is great, but seems pretty try-hard. A simple "Hello, you guys look fun. Where are you from?" will work just as well. Try it out sometime :)

In addition to this, learning the language (if you have a particular thing for the girls of one country) is magic. I started learning Japanese last year and during my final year of college I got to know every Japanese student at the school. They were some of the most genuinely kind and fun friends I've ever made.
